Not just a view, the heritage behind it. Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the details that never make it into the guidebooks, all printed on the poster.
By 1313 the central tower was cracking apart, its foundations sinking under the weight of the stone above it. The fix, put in place a few decades later by master mason William Joy, was three enormous inverted arches crossing the space beneath the tower, distributing the weight before the whole thing could come down. They look almost too modern for a medieval cathedral, all clean lines and no carving at all, and nearly seven hundred years later they're still doing exactly the job they were built for.
An original illustration, available in colour or black and white, created for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
No frame included.
