Each poster comes with a letter home. Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the detail that never makes it into the guidebooks.
Nicola Salvi spent years building this fountain next door to a barbershop whose owner never stopped complaining about the noise and the crowds ruining his trade. Salvi's answer was to carve a stone vase into the design, tall enough to block the barber's shopfront from every visitor's view. Romans still call it the Asso di Coppe, the Ace of Cups, after the playing card it resembles. Salvi died in 1751 with the fountain only half finished, never seeing the barber's face when it was unveiled.
This poster is an original illustration in watercolour and ink, painted by Ella for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
