Not just a view, the heritage behind it. Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the details that never make it into the guidebooks, all printed on the poster.
Shah Jahan built this for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, and the story, first written down by a French traveller in 1665, says he planned a second tomb for himself across the river, an exact match in black marble, joined to the white one by a bridge. He never got the chance to start it. His son overthrew him in 1658 and locked him away in Agra Fort for the rest of his life, where he's said to have spent his last years simply looking at the Taj Mahal from a window. No black marble has ever been found. He was buried in the white one in the end, beside her.
An original illustration, available in colour or black and white, created for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
No frame included.
