Polly Joke, Cornwall - Travel Poster
Polly Joke, Cornwall - Travel PosterCouldn't load pickup availability
Most beaches in Cornwall have a car park and a welcome sign. Polly Joke has neither. You leave the car in a field, follow the path down through the valley and arrive somewhere that feels like it has been waiting for you to arrive. In summer the dunes and the clifftops are thick with poppies, and for a few weeks the whole cove turns a particular shade of red that people come back for year after year.
The name comes from the Cornish Porth Jogo, jackdaw cove, and the place still has that wild, unbothered character. No cafe, no beach hut, no car park. Just the path, the poppies, the sand and the sea. The stream that crosses the beach to reach the water has been doing it for centuries without any help, and the cliffs make sure you earn the view. That is entirely the point.
The illustration is an original work in watercolour and ink, painted as part of the Ella's Adventures travel poster series. Every poster comes with a letter from Ella, written from the place itself. Part history, part personal observation, it gives you the story behind the artwork and the reason this place found its way into the collection.
