Each poster comes with a letter home. Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the funny details that never makes it into the guidebooks.
Aníbal González started planning this square in 1914, and spent the best part of fifteen years on it, delayed again and again by the First World War. It finally opened in May 1929 for the Ibero-American Exposition, all curved brick and painted tile, built to show the world what Spain could do. Five months later the Wall Street Crash hit, the Great Depression followed, and the visitors who were supposed to fill the plaza mostly never came. It looks like it's been standing for centuries!
This poster is an original illustration in watercolour and ink, painted by Ella for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
