Each poster comes with a letter home. Ella writes about the place and its hidden history, and the details that never makes it into the guidebooks.

The most French thing on any breakfast table isn't French at all. It started life as the Austrian kipferl, a crescent roll with records going back to the 1200s. The popular story blames Marie Antoinette for bringing it over when she married into the French court, but that tale only turns up in print in 1938, invented whole by a food historian two hundred and fifty years after the fact. What actually happened is far more ordinary. In 1839, an Austrian named August Zang opened a Viennese bakery in Paris, and French bakers took the idea and ran with it.

This poster is an original illustration in watercolour and ink, painted exclusively for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.

No frame included.
