Each poster comes with a letter home. Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the detail that never makes it into the guidebooks.
This subtropical clifftop garden above Salcombe owes its existence to Otto Overbeck, an inventor whose most successful creation was an "electrical rejuvenator," a device he patented in the 1920s that claimed to reverse the ageing process if you strapped its electrodes to your skin. The profits bought him the house and garden. When he died in 1937 he left the whole estate to the nation, asking only that it become a public park, a museum, and a hostel for young people, a strange and generous legacy from a man who made his fortune on a machine that almost certainly didn't work.
This poster is an original illustration in watercolour and ink, painted exclusively for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
