Those cars aren't preserved for show. When the United States imposed a trade embargo in 1962 and Cuba banned the import of American vehicles and parts, the cars already on the island were all anyone had left, so people kept them running out of necessity, not nostalgia. More than sixty years on, plenty of those 1950s bodies are still on the road with Soviet diesel engines under the bonnet, and parts hand shaped from sheet metal, melted iron, sometimes even wood. It's not a museum. It's just what people had to get good at.
