Each poster comes with a letter home. Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the funny details that never makes it into the guidebooks.
Around 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns, all formed by the same volcanic activity 60 million years ago, and cooled into shape long before anyone was around to see it. The legend says the giant Finn McCool built it to reach Scotland and fight his rival Benandonner, and that his wife disguised him as a baby to scare the other giant off when he realised how big he really was. There's an identical set of columns on the Scottish island of Staffa, part of the very same ancient lava flow, which is probably exactly how the story got started in the first place. The Causeway's own Irish name, though, translates to something else entirely, stepping stones, with no giant mentioned at all.
This poster is an original exclusive illustration in watercolour and ink, exclusively painted for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
