Everyone comes for the calm, the oldest surviving garden in Iran, straight turquoise water channels between the cypress trees, fed by a spring that has never stopped. Few are told that its little bathhouse is where Amir Kabir, the country's great reforming chancellor, was exiled and quietly killed in 1852 on the order of the shah he had served.
