Each poster comes with a letter home, Ella writes about the place, its hidden history, and the detail that never makes it onto the information boards.
On the 6th May 1889, the Eiffel Tower opened its doors to the public for the first time, and Paris had spent two years trying to prevent it being built. A Committee of Three Hundred, one member for every metre of the tower's height, petitioned against what they called a "useless and monstrous" addition to the skyline. Gustave Eiffel's iron lattice went up anyway, rising above the Champ de Mars for the Exposition Universelle and becoming, almost overnight, the tallest man-made structure in the world. In the letter, Ella writes about the writers and artists who tried to stop it, and the one who took lunch inside it every day so he never had to look at it.
This poster is an original illustration in watercolour and ink, painted by Ella for the Ella's Adventures travel poster series.
