The church that was never a church

This building has been fooling people for a hundred and fifty years, and it's doing it on purpose. Feskekôrka looks exactly like a Gothic church, pointed arches, tall windows, all of it. It's a fish market. It always has been.

It opened in 1874, and the architect deliberately built it to look like a place of worship purely to get people's attention, and it clearly worked, because locals have called it the Fish Church ever since. There's a quieter story running underneath it too. By the time of its last big renovation, the whole structure had been slowly sliding towards the canal for years, and it took two hundred steel piles driven into the ground just to hold it in place.
