The holiday home Agatha Christie never really left

Here's what I like most about Greenway House. It's a Georgian house above the River Dart that Agatha Christie bought as a holiday home and quietly loved for over thirty years, a private escape rather than a public monument, at least while she was alive.

What makes it worth painting is how little has changed since. The house is still furnished largely as she left it, her own books, china and belongings scattered through the rooms exactly where she put them, the garden running down to the water just as it did when she was writing some of the century's best known mysteries a short distance away. It's less a museum about her and more a house that simply carried on being hers.
